To realize a vision for a unique and immersive multi-dimensional experience for customer engagement, one that can flex on the fly for the content needs of each briefing, Inmarsat turned to Mezzanine from Oblong Industries.
Inmarsat is the industry leader and pioneer of mobile satellite communications, offering an unrivaled portfolio of global satcom solutions and services to keep businesses, governments and other organizations, connected at all times – on land, at sea or in the air.
For it’s UK headquarters, located by London’s Old Street and part of the ‘Silicon Roundabout’ area which has become the centre of Europe’s thriving technology sector, Inmarsat endeavored to create a cutting-edge new environment to showcase its ground-breaking solutions to both existing and potential new clients. This new corporate workspace required an advanced presentation and collaboration solution to enable interactions in both virtual and physical spaces with vibrant effect.
We were looking for dynamic new technologies to help us showcase Inmarsat in a truly innovative way, which would help our customers visualize how we can solve their business challenges. We wanted exciting and engaging technology, which would help us to ‘jump into the future’ and enable us to show Inmarsat’s solutions in a really stimulating way.

Inmarsat’s Future Technology Manager Dan Alldis approached IT consultants MBA-IT to workshop their requirements and were subsequently introduced to Mezzanine via a demonstration at our London office in Shoreditch. The project team worked together to fully understand the unique way Inmarsat wanted to utilize the technology within the iMPACT! room.
Guy Brandon from MBA-IT comments: “After learning about the goals for the iMPACT project, it was apparent that Oblong’s Mezzanine would be an ideal fit. We identified this match and recommended they utilize this disruptive technology, which we believed would offer a best-in-class solution that is unrivalled in the market.”
The team at Inmarsat recognized that Mezzanine’s Infopresence capabilities were crucial to providing an immersive, collaborative, responsive, and data-rich environment across all work surfaces, in which all participants and stakeholders, could share content, contribute to presentations, better analyze key business data in real-time.
The iMPACT! room features a display wall of 55” monitors tiled in a 4×2 array with two ‘cork board’ displays, to provide an expansive space on which to share ideas and content, from video footage to live date feeds. Also installed in the room is a state-of-the-art projection table, which is driven by Mezzanine and enables participants to use the table as an active workspace. Using one of Mezzanine’s intuitive gestural wands, users can move content, video and images around any of the screens, zoom in and expand crucial elements in an intuitive way. With Mezzanine, remote participants can view everything that’s happening via the web interface, accessible from a web browser or iOS app, and add their own content to the discussion.

Mezzanine’s interactive and intuitive gestural-controlled interface, one of several modes of simultaneous control of the workspace, supports a more democratic process to advance business conversations and initiatives. With Mezzanine, no single leader of a discussion is necessarily required; anyone in the meeting can share data and documents to the Mezzanine workspace, and this can then be viewed, accessed and annotated by all participants. Mezzanine goes far beyond traditional video conferencing technology or presentation tools, to offer a richer experience of true interaction and collaboration.
Says Dan Alldis, “The feedback from our sales team has been very positive, iMPACT! is seen as a means of differentiation from our competitors, adding real value to the sales process.”
